How to choose the right bra

The right bra does two jobs at once: it holds the weight of the bust on the band, not the straps, and it gives you a shape you are comfortable in. Most fit problems come down to a band that is too loose, so if the back rides up or the straps keep slipping, the band is usually the place to start rather than the cup.

Padded and push-up bras

Moulded padded cups smooth the shape under fitted clothes and stop show-through. Push-up styles add lift and cleavage through angled padding at the base of the cup. Front-closure push-ups are easier to fasten and give a noticeably more centred shape.

Wireless and full-coverage bras

Wire-free bras support through a wide band and firm moulded cups instead of an underwire. They are the more comfortable choice for long days, for warm weather, and for anyone who finds underwire digs in. Full-coverage cups sit higher on the bust and are the most secure option under everyday shalwar kameez and kurtis.

Sports bras

Support needs to match the activity. Light compression is enough for yoga and walking; running and HIIT need a high-impact bra with a firm band, wide straps and padded cups. Front-closure sports bras are far easier to get out of after a workout.

Bralettes

Wire-free, lightly lined and cut for comfort rather than structure. Best under loose clothing, for lounging and for sleeping, and a good first bra for smaller busts.
